The day kicks off bright and early with our gatherings at the designated locations:
07:00 AM: Departure from Parque de los Periodistas in La Candelaria.
8:00 AM: Assemble with the rest of the group at the second location: Parque de la 93. From here, we set off for Guatavita.
11:00 AM: Arrival in Guatavita. Our hike to the Guatavita Lagoon begins, nestled within the Chingaza Natural Park. Guided by our expert, you'll traverse the trails encircling the sacred lagoon and delve into the legend of El Dorado and the Muisca culture.
Legend has it that the Guatavita Lagoon was the site of a sacred ritual conducted by the Muisca people, where the chief would be submerged in the water along with offerings of gold and emeralds. The ceremony was a tribute to the goddess of fertility and abundance, with the belief that the chief would emerge purified and blessed by the goddess.
At this juncture, you'll connect with nature, experience the wild and mystical páramo climate, and relish in breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes.
02:30 PM: From Guatavita, we proceed to the city of Zipaquirá. Upon arrival, enjoy free time for lunch (meal not included).
04:00 PM: Reach the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral. Discover the history behind this remarkable feat of architecture and mining. The cathedral tour is self-guided with an audio guide, allowing you to explore the chapels and meditation areas.
You'll gain insights into the history of salt mining in the area and the construction of the Salt Cathedral.
6:00 PM: Return to the town of Zipaquirá for a glimpse into the local culture of this charming town, its stunning colonial square, and the historic train station. Enjoy free time to grab a coffee or shop for souvenirs in local craft stores.
08:00 PM: Arrive at Parque de la 93. Disembarkation of the initial travelers.
