Tour Description

Half Day Option
We will gather at the designated location in Villa de Leyva. Our local guide will greet you and provide a brief overview of the day's adventure.
This cultural and artisanal journey spans approximately 4 hours and includes visits to the following iconic sites in Villa de Leyva:
    • Villa de Leyva Semi-Desert: We set off to explore the intriguing semi-desert of Villa de Leyva, where a unique landscape of sandy terrain and lush mountains awaits. Here, you'll learn about the area's geology, the effects of erosion, and how local flora and fauna have adapted to this environment.

    • Blue Wells: Our next stop is the remarkable Pozos Azules, a natural oasis within the semi-desert. We'll stroll through this enchanting location, taking in the striking greenish-blue waters that stand out against the arid backdrop. According to local legend, these wells are home to protective spirits of nature, and bathing in their waters is believed to bring good fortune and protection.

This site is perfect for capturing stunning photographs and appreciating the natural splendor while learning about their formation. The rich mineral content of the area, including sulfur and copper, creates the vibrant hues of the waters.

    • Paleontological Research Center: Our journey continues to the Paleontological Research Center, where an extraordinary collection of fossils dating back over 120 million years awaits. Here, you'll encounter the oldest fossilized sea turtle in the world and other prehistoric species that once thrived in this region. Additionally, the center showcases full-scale replicas of dinosaurs and other ancient creatures, offering a vivid glimpse into life during the Mesozoic era. This center is not only a repository of fossils but also an active hub of scientific research, featuring interactive and audiovisual exhibits that explain fossilization and species evolution over millions of years, providing a captivating experience for all ages.

    • Terracotta House: Our final destination is the Terracotta House, the largest craft structure globally made entirely of clay. This edifice, which took approximately 17 years to complete, offers a unique experience with its innovative design and organic architecture.

The tour allows you to explore every corner of this distinctive house, which includes bedrooms, living areas, and workspaces, all crafted with unparalleled creativity and skill. This location is not just a tribute to craftsmanship and human ingenuity but also a source of inspiration for eco-friendly construction and sustainable design.

After a day filled with discoveries, we will return to the center of Villa de Leyva to conclude our half-day tour.
