Descripción del Tour:
Our journey kicks off early in the morning from the designated meeting points. You have the option to start this thrilling full-day excursion from either location.
Itinerary highlights:
08:00 AM: Gather at Parque de los Periodistas in La Candelaria to commence the tour. This is the initial meeting spot, where the group will be assembled, and the coordinator will provide the first insights into our adventure.
9:00 AM: Collect additional travelers at our second meeting location, Parque de la 93. From this point, we set off towards Zipaquirá, departing Bogotá. The journey will take approximately an hour and a half, as Zipaquirá is situated roughly 50 km north of the capital. We'll leave the bustling city behind to embrace the serene and authentic surroundings of the nearby villages.
10:45 AM: Arrival in Zipaquirá, a delightful colonial town established in 1600, renowned for its Salt Cathedral and stunning architecture, featuring cobblestone streets, vibrant houses, and picturesque squares.
11:00 AM: Enter the Salt Cathedral, where you'll embark on a guided tour of the underground tunnels and chapels hewn from rock salt. The coordinator will facilitate your entry without the hassle of long queues and guide you on using the audio guide during your subterranean exploration.
Upon entering the salt mine, you'll marvel at the grandeur of the structure and discover the cathedral's history and construction. As you traverse the site, you'll witness chapels representing the Stations of the Cross, each intricately carved from rock salt and adorned with breathtaking sculptures that will leave you in awe.
Ultimately, you'll arrive at the Cathedral's nave, where the meticulous details and special lighting heighten the structure's splendor, crafting a magical and mystical ambiance. Here, you'll behold a large cross carved into the rock and enjoy religious music in an atmosphere of silence and contemplation.
1:30 PM: Conclude the Salt Cathedral tour. You'll have leisure time to explore the village and savor a meal at one of the many local eateries (lunch not included in the tour).
Zipaquirá is celebrated for its culinary delights, and the town offers a diverse range of restaurants serving traditional Colombian and regional dishes. Popular options include pea soup, ajiaco, mixed meats, chicken sancocho, and lomo al trapo.
If you choose to wander around town, we recommend visiting the Plaza de los Comuneros, a hub for gatherings and cultural events, or exploring one of the town's museums, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Gold Museum, which narrate the region's history and indigenous culture.
03:00 PM: Return to the bus and depart from Zipaquirá. We bid farewell to the town, enriched with energy and amazed by the remarkable and salty underground marvel.
04:30 PM: Arrive at Parque de la 93 to drop off passengers who boarded here.
05:30 PM: Reach Parque de los Periodistas in La Candelaria, marking the end of our tour.
