Tour Description
The journey commences when your guide arrives to collect you from your lodging in Bogota. Being a full-day excursion, it is essential to begin in the morning, between 07:00 and 10:00 AM. You can select the most convenient start time within this window.
We will depart Bogotá heading north, ensuring a comfortable and secure ride in our private vehicle. After roughly an hour, we will reach our first destination: The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá.
Boasting over 60 years of history, this subterranean cathedral was crafted inside the Zipaquirá salt mines to honor the devotion of miners seeking protection before their shifts. Entirely carved from salt, this cathedral is esteemed as Colombia's foremost wonder. You will have the opportunity to navigate the tunnels and passages, which, located 200 meters beneath the ground, host a rich artistic collection of salt and marble sculptures set amidst an atmosphere of profound religious significance.
Following the awe-inspiring underground experience, we will proceed to the town, exploring the main avenues of Zipaquirá to understand its historical significance and its ties to ecotourism and geological studies.
After lunch, we will delve into the unique ecosystem of the Guatavita Natural Park, where you can enjoy the fresh air and uncover the most renowned of the sacred lagoons from pre-Columbian times: La Laguna de Guatavita.
Situated at 3100 meters above sea level, this lagoon's perfectly circular shape, encircled by native encenillo forests, spans a diameter of approximately 700 meters. You will uncover some of the secrets and mysteries of this sacred site, while connecting with a natural environment enveloped in mist, silence, and untouched forests.
From Guatavita, we will return to Bogotá, concluding the adventure with your arrival back at your accommodation.
